After becoming trapped in present-day Bath due to a mishap with her time-traveling charm, Jane Austen is safe and sound back in the 1800s thanks to Rose Wallace’s help. Now, Rose is ready to focus on her fledgling romance with dreamy Dr. Aiden Trevellyan.

But when Jane reappears in the present, it looks like Rose and Aiden have no choice but to follow her back to 1813….

Staying in the Austen household, Rose and Aiden are introduced to a number of interesting figures from the past, including Jane’s eccentric – and surprisingly modern – neighbour. Suddenly Rose’s life is in need of a rewrite as she discovers some unexpected ties to Jane Austen’s world and her past.

“Listeners will be riveted.” (AudioFile Magazine)

Alison Larkin’s Earphones Award-winning recordings of Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden are brought together in this powerful double bill.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is the epic love story of the plain, unwanted orphan with an indomitable spirit who becomes a great romantic heroine despite all odds.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett is the story of Mary Lennox, who, when her parents die of cholera, is sent to live with her uncle in a cold, dark mansion in England. There, she discovers a secret garden that has been locked for 10 years.

“As an orphan myself, these two great novels affected me deeply as a child. Narrating them as an adult was a privilege and showed me that the courage it takes for an unwanted girl to forge her own path in the world is the same today as it was when these two masterpieces were written…” (Alison Larkin)

Rose Wallace’s world revolves around all things Jane Austen, and with the annual festival in Bath – and the arrival of dishy archaeologist Dr. Aiden Trevellyan – just around the corner, all is well with the world.

But then a mysterious woman who bears more than a passing resemblance to the great author moves in upstairs, and things take a disastrous turn. Rose’s new neighbour is none other than Jane Austen herself, now trapped in the 21st century after her time-travel adventure was sabotaged by a mischievous dog.

Rose’s life is instantly changed – new home, new job, new friends – but she’s the only one who seems to have noticed! To right the world around her, she’ll have to do whatever it takes to help Jane get back home to write Rose’s beloved novels. Because a world without Mr. Darcy? It’s not worth living in!

Amory Ames is alone at her country house, Thornecrest, enjoying her last few weeks of peace and quiet as she prepares for the imminent arrival of her baby. Her husband, Milo, is in London on business, and Amory is content to catch up on her correspondence, organize the nursery, and avoid the well-meaning if rather overbearing company of the ladies in the village as they prepare for the Springtide Festival. But then a woman appears on her doorstep, also claiming to be Mrs. Ames, Milo’s wife.

Amory’s marriage has had its ups and downs in the past, but her faith in her husband has been restored, and Milo has been nothing but thrilled about becoming a father. Although the supposed second Mrs. Ames seems earnest, Amory is convinced she must be mistaken, a belief that Milo confirms upon his homecoming. However, when a second unexpected visitor arrives at Thornecrest, secret identities and whirlwind romances appear to be becoming par for the course.

It’s not until the day of the festival, when Milo’s stable hand Bertie is found dead, that the strange characters appearing in town begin to seem more sinister, and Amory is determined to uncover the killer in the crowd.

The proud and arrogant duke of Everingham is determined to secure a marriage of convenience with heiress Lady Georgiana Rutherford. He’s the biggest prize on the London marriage mart, pursued by young unmarried ladies and their matchmaking mamas, as well as married women with a wandering eye. He can have any woman he wants. Or so he thinks….

Lady Georgiana Rutherford – irreverent and unconventional – has no plans to marry. Having grown up poor, Lady George has no intention of giving up her fortune to become dependent on the dubious and unreliable goodwill of a man. Especially a man as insufferable as the duke of Everingham, whose kisses stirs unwelcome and unsettling emotions….

The more she defies him, the more the duke wants her, until an argument at a ball spirals into a passionate embrace. Caught in a compromising position, the duke announces their betrothal. George is furious, and when gossip claims she deliberately entrapped the duke – when she was the one who was trapped – she marches down the aisle in a scarlet wedding dress. But the unlikely bride and groom may have found love in the most improbable of places – a marriage of convenience.

“Novels rich in imagination, detail, and surprises requires a narrator who can embrace every element of the story – Alison Larkin is that narrator.” (AudioFile Magazine)

Great Classic Children’s Stories (Volume One): Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen and Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve.

Twenty hours of Great Classic Children’s stories are brought to sparkling new life, read by award-winning audiobook narrator Alison Larkin.

“The well-known characters in the much-loved story of Peter Pan are enlivened with humor and excitement in this gem,” raves AudioFile Magazine about Peter Pan, which won an AudioFile Earphones award and starts the collection.

The Princess and the Goblin, the very first fantasy novel that famously influenced Lewis Carroll, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein, tells the story of eight-year-old Princess Irene who lives in a remote region with no one but her nursemaid for company. Meanwhile, deep in the heart of the earth lurk grotesque and hideous creatures plotting vengeance against humankind…

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass have become international best-selling audiobooks and have received rave reviews worldwide. “Larkin’s narration is simply brilliant,” says Michael Gates Gill.

The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen and our bonus story Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve continue to enchant children of all ages to this day.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer’s grandson, Ben, is afraid to join the soccer team. To help out, she tells him the story of Leopold the Turtle, who always stays on the shore. It terrifies him to go join the other turtles and play in the water and sun on the rocks.

Leopold just can’t get out of his shell, and the longer he waits, the more he starts to doubt. Even though Leopold feels quite alone, he stays on the riverbank where it’s safe. But Freddy the Frog is a little concerned about Leopold and asks him to join them in the river. Leopold has to choose whether to brave the unknown and join his friends or to stay lonely and remain safe on land.

This charming rhyming tale of a turtle too afraid to set foot in the river proves that facing your fears can set you free.

What if Scrooge were a woman?

Following her adaptation of Great Expectations, best-selling novelist and award-winning audiobook narrator Alison Larkin changes the gender of Scrooge in this ground-breaking new recording of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

It’s the same beloved Christmas story – only one thing has changed. In this version, Scrooge is a woman.

Everything else, though, is pure Dickens. So, in this version, the characters behave as if it were quite normal for a girl to learn to read and write, fall in love with a woman, and have the kind of life and career only men could dream of in 1843.

It’s an irresistible question. If gender had been simply irrelevant in the 19th century, where would we all be now?

Following the recording, exclusively for Audible, Larkin continues this exciting experiment along similar lines and reads The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore with only one change. What? You guessed it. St. Nick is a woman.

“Alison Larkin is brilliant.” (The Times)

Best-selling novelist and award-winning audiobook narrator Alison Larkin changes the gender of Dicken’s most famous character in this dazzling new recording of Great Expectations.

It’s still the same thrilling story of youthful innocence, unexpected escape from cruel poverty, an old woman jilted at the altar, a beautiful, haughty, damaged young woman, and a mysterious financial gift that transforms the life of a young person. But one thing has changed. In this version, Pip is a woman.

In this world, it is completely normal for a girl to learn to read and kiss another girl and be able to walk into a tavern without being molested or start a promising career thanks to a mysterious financial donation.

It’s an irresistible question. If gender had been simply irrelevant in the 19th century, where would we all be now?

“A novel rich in imagination, detail, and surprises requires a narrator who can embrace every element of the story – Alison Larkin is that narrator.” (Audiofile Magazine)

“Alison Larkin is hugely entertaining.” (The Times)

“Both a hymn to the joys of ‘being different’ and an earnest exploration of the serious traumas suffered by teenagers who are lucky enough, and unlucky enough, to be unconventional.” (The Guardian)

Sitting by himself on a bench during recess, fashion-loving Francis is joined by Jessica. He’s surprised when he learns that she’s a ghost and that Francis is the first person who has been able to see her since she died. When they become friends, then meet two more outsiders who can also see Jessica, the questions arise: Why are they the only ones who can see Jessica? And how did she die?

“Narrating this funny, beautifully written story taught me that when someone is depressed, instead of trying to fix things, it can be more helpful to just shut up and listen.” (Alison Larkin)

The audiobook is followed by a candid discussion with three American teenagers about depression, anxiety, bullying, suicide, social media, and the healing power of friendship.

A rugged and ruined naval officer comes to claim his bride in an unforgettable tale of love, revenge, and redemption from the nationally bestselling author of Marry in Scandal.

Lady Rose Rutherford – rebel, heiress, and exasperated target of the town’s hungry bachelors – has a plan to gain the freedom she so desperately desires: She will enter into a marriage of convenience with the biggest prize on the London marriage mart.

There’s just one problem: the fierce-looking man who crashes her wedding to the Duke of Everingham – Thomas Beresford, the young naval officer she fell in love with and secretly married when she was still a schoolgirl. Thought to have died four years ago he’s returned, a cold, hard stranger with one driving purpose – revenge.

Embittered by betrayal and hungry for vengeance, Thomas will stop at nothing to reclaim his rightful place, even if that means using Rose – and her fortune – to do it. But Rose never did follow the rules, and as she takes matters into her own unpredictable hands, Thomas finds himself in an unexpected and infuriating predicament: He’s falling in love with his wife….

Contains mature themes.

A personal indictment of the institute of slavery in the Southern United States, as witnessed directly by Fanny Kemble, a British actress in 1838 and 1839. Her husband, the heir to the plantations in Georgia, however, forebade her to publish this material on pain of never seeing her daughters again. She complied, until the two daughters had reached the age of 21, and then allowed the journal to be published in 1863, when the Northern troops were already present along the coast near the Altamaha River, where the plantations were located. In a very personal way, she relates her many varied experiences, efforts to make life easier for the slaves despite her husband’s stubborn resistance. As an English citizen, she had seen the total end of slavery throughout the British Empire in 1833, just a few years before her journey to Georgia. She ends her account with a stirring defense of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which had raised such a storm of controversy in the United States. Like Stowe, Kemble sees all sides of the situation, with her eyes and with her heart.
