I enjoyed the book and will be getting the next one but I did kept getting taken out of the verisimilitude by pop culture references that don’t exist in a fantasy world. Examples: “simp” and “Blood for the blood god!”, there are more but is slipping my mind at the moment.

The System is a bit of a slog but is a nice change of pace. Classic rich people hoarding knowledge and power from the poor.
