I enjoyed the refreshing new aspect to the series, though I was a little upset at the ending. It seems unfair to the characters to let it end like that, especially for everything the characters have been through together. However, despite my feelings at the end, this is still an amazing book continuation of the series. Action, gore, little romance and bromance, love, loss, null-spot occurrences, and humor. A must read if you enjoyed the other books in the series.
SPOILER…

Excellent writing can make readers go through the entire spectrum of emotions. I’ve felt that through this entire series. This is still one of my favorite horror/apocalyptic series. I was shocked to learn that Murphy’s sister died between the last book and this book. I can see the relevance of why the author did it that way but I was a little sad we didn’t get to see more of her.

With most horror books, I read them with no expectations of any of the characters surviving. When they do it’s a delightful surprise. Steph not surviving at the end was a gut punch. Zed and Steph deserved their happy ending. This is one of the book series where I have a love/hate relationship with the author. Loved the characters, the writing, the entire series then the author is like…well I can’t allow my readers to feel happy. Who do I need to kill off? I about threw my phone. I’m a glutton for punishment so I’ll still be reading Bobby Adair’s other books.
