I was curious about this because of the high reviews, but realized early on not for me. It’s all the fun of watching someone else play an rpg grinding for levels. Or more like listening to someone talk about it. I’m sure this is the best of what this genre has to offer, but this genre isn’t for me. And it bums me out that anyone connects to it. Reduces the stakes of real life to those of a video game. I think that’s the core. The stakes don’t matter. Fantasy has the ability to take you to a magical world where amazing things can happen, and a character you identify with can save the world. In this world the amazing things are without wonder, reduced to numbers – safe and measurable, and the world is already lost – not your responsibility. It’s boring and I don’t care.
