This is one of those books that tries to be too many things many things at once and ends up being bad at all of them. it’s a post-apocalyptic book, it’s got a serial killer in it, it’s got the environmental angle, got the political / nuclear war angle, got the EMP angle, they’re all done really really badly.
on top of that this is one of the many books of this genre that is broken up into a lot of smaller books, and because it’s sort of a money grab making everyone buy these individual books a lot of really simple plots are drawn out. For example, the serial killer embeds himself into a community where you know eventually is going to be a conflict but you have to wait for about 60% of the book to be finished in order for that to come to a very boring climax. They’re a whole chapters IN A ROW where essentially nothing happens of any meaningful nature.
This is a terrible waste of time and money. I powered through it out of sheer stubbornness but it’s one of those regrets I’ll one day till my grandchildren about.
