I genuinely do not know how to explain this book to people. 😂
I picked up Dungeon Crawler Carl fully expecting a quick, ridiculous, chaotic “turn your brain off” kind of read based on everything I had seen online.
And yes… it IS ridiculous.
There’s violence, absurdity, a talking cat with more personality than most people, and enough chaos to make you question reality.
But underneath all of that?
There’s actually a surprising amount of heart, character development, world building, and emotional depth woven into the story.
Carl especially caught me off guard. In the beginning, I thought he might irritate me, but as the story progressed, he started to feel incredibly human. He says what everyone is thinking, reacts like an actual person trapped in insanity, and you slowly start watching him change under the pressure of it all.
And Princess Donut?
An icon. A legend. Completely unhinged.
The humor landed for me far more than I expected, but what surprised me most was realizing I actually cared about the characters and wanted to understand the larger world and mystery behind everything happening.
This book is weird.
It’s rough around the edges at times.
It absolutely will not be for everyone.
But somehow beneath all the chaos is a story with genuine depth and surprisingly sharp commentary on humanity, survival, entertainment culture, and resilience.
Also, I need more Agatha immediately
