It’s a fairly average book series. Nothing special, but the proes are decent and the characters compelling enough to get me to near the end of book three. I’m not a big fan of stories that decide the author’s religion is the one true religion, but the premise was fun enough to keep me listening right up to the moment they decided to say ALL other religions are wrong and bad and that their deities were the bad guys the whole time. They even suggested certain cultures practiced human sacrifice when they absolutely did NOT. Completely remove the fact it’s offensive as hell (hehe) and you’re still left with it being an overused and boring way to explain away other religions in your serious. There are other, more interesting ways to do this. You can say God appeared to other people in a way the would understand and connect with. Outside of that? The books haven’t said anything interesting about religion, not even the main one in the book. I’d probably be more forgiving if they did, because then I’d have something to engage with and think about. I ultimately won’t be finishing book three, and will drop this series. It’s not bad. It simply isn’t for me.
