The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook takes the series to a deeper and more emotional level. The expanding cast of characters adds so much to the story, and each new personality feels distinctive, interesting, and important rather than simply being added to fill out the world. Their relationships with Carl and Donut make the story feel more personal and raise the emotional stakes considerably.

The narration remains outstanding. The narrator continues to move effortlessly between voices, giving every character a recognizable personality and making the audiobook feel like a full-cast production. The humor is still consistently hilarious, but this installment also shows more of the pain, anger, and humanity beneath the chaos. That emotional weight draws you further into the story and makes it increasingly difficult not to become invested in the characters.

My only criticism is that the Iron Tangle is so complicated that it can be difficult to visualize, especially while listening. At times, I struggled to picture how the different routes, trains, and locations connected. Even with that challenge, the characters, humor, action, and emotional development make this an excellent continuation of the series. By the end, I wasn’t just entertained—I was completely invested in what happens next.
