I really wanted to like this story more than I did. Minor spoilers, just explaining the backstory and setup.

The initial concept is fed it odd snippets and form a disturbing reality – The MC lives in a universe where magic appeared and allowed AIs to become the dominate controlling force of humanity (it doesn’t SAY subjugation but…). He hates his life, managed to get rich, and decided to go into stasis in order to pilot a living body on a prison planet that is the most magical planet of all. And piloting the body is also like being a constant Twitch streamer, earning money and fame. The ‘System’ (never explained if this is via the AIs or a separate thing) runs everything with skills and powerups. Right after getting started an ‘apocalypse’ happens and now he’s not piloting a body, it is really his body now. This is his new life and he’s gonna make the most of it, especially after he gets a super secret power up!

Good stuff. The magic system is fun, fairly straight forward and not too complicated while still allowing for individuality and creativity. The characters are a little easy going and accepting, but can be explained away by the apocalypse putting everyone on the backfoot and focusing on survival. The character is fairly ‘realist’, not too depressing, not a murder hobo, but also not sunshine and rainbows. His super secret power gives him the potential to get strong fast, but he still has to work for it and the environment he finds himself in makes it so he has to work with others or risk dying from overconfidence.

My personal issues were simply it was hard to really care about the MC, dude just had a boring job and life, only talked to his mom, and decided (despite getting rich and having to potential to actually improve his life) the best thing he can do is abandon everything and go be an influencer on the magical death world… wtf? The story is actually fun, the characters are fun and well written, the world building is interesting (if only given in dribs and drabs), and maybe you grow to love it, but I just could bring my self to continue.
