While I am certain that there are those who will enjoy this book, and I do not begrudge them that, this book simply did not do it for me. Having so many friends who swear that this series is amazing, I tried but I just couldn’t do it. It is a grimdark story. Yes, there are moments of comedy or a couple softer moments, over all it’s sadistic torture and we’re supposed to enjoy it.
We are, by its design, the same as the spectators in the book. I do not derive enjoyment from that sort of experience. Yes, bad things must happen so that characters can grow, but this never lets up.
So if you enjoy it, I am thrilled you do. However, if you don’t….don’t feel bad, you’re not the only one.
