Writer didnt understand or include anything specific to RPGs. Most jokes are from other games and have a lot of “did you get it, did you get it…” stretching them out until I never want to hear an achievement joke again after the 10min of it (Steam greenlight action flips joke,btw).
Also a main character is supposed to be smart, but isnt written smart, so like SMB, they just put on a british accent, talk down to people, and have the author tell you they are smart over and over.
The book also suffers from “Forget what was written 2min ago, because I need this to happen.”
“Its making fun of video games” does not excuse bad writing. RPG is a genre best known for its good writing.
At least SMB was a merciful 90min and is ironically funny.
