I wish someone had left this review and I had seen it before I began the series. I love the storyline and became invested in the characters almost immediately but, the author’s need to interject a political agenda grew tiresome. Book 5 and I’m still hearing about woke, liberals and cancel culture. It’s not like I didn’t expect it since this genre tends to lean right and the setting of the story is rural Tennessee. Honestly, as long as it’s not blatantly pushed down my ears, I’m not bothered. But, casting the university professor as a liberal nut and the hero holler boys as conservative saints who enjoy torture, is over the top. I was left rolling my eyes at another swipe at every issue from Covid vaccines to U.S. troops pulling out of Afghanistan. Schow, is a fabulous author with an uncanny gift to weave humour in his dialogue. But, I will no longer purchase solely for the quantity or because the man, the myth, the legend, Kevin Pierce, is narrating. I’ll check to see if the author pushes political agenda. If I’m spending 50+ hours listening, I’ll opt for less soapboxing.
