I expected an excellent fantasy. I didn’t expect a story that would completely wreck me emotionally. The action was incredible, but it was the relationships, grief, forgiveness, and quiet moments between the characters that made this unforgettable.
I found myself unable to stop listening, wiping away tears before going back to work, and then putting off the final chapter because I wasn’t ready for it to end. The emotional payoff was earned, not forced, and the ending gave me something I didn’t realize I needed: closure.
This wasn’t just a great fantasy. It was a deeply human story about love, family, sacrifice, and choosing compassion when it’s hardest. I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time.
This is my first 6-star book. I’ll be collecting every special edition I can find.
