I enjoyed this book but came up with a new term. It’s well-written, but it’s popcorn; entertaining but not a tone of substance. I’ll recommend it for its originality and humor, but there were some pacing issues for me 2/3rds of the way in after getting used to the premise. I felt like the battles got repetitive. At the end of this book, I needed a break for a few weeks before jumping into the second. My fear at the end of this was that the rest of the series would just be the same and we’d get stuck in a loop recycling the same old scenes without really moving forward. Having just finished the second book, I think this one does an excellent job of setting up the universe and laying the foundation for future installments. I’m now excited to see where the rest of the series leads!
