Reading The Gelatin Coast I felt like I was uncovering a hidden treasure. It kept producing a gem after gem, it kept me excited and entertained, and in the end I was sorry there wasn’t any more of it.

Every single segment of the book was brilliant. The story was masterfully woven with many different threads coming together to form a lovely congruous fabric that warms the heart. The characters were delightfully colorful and unique. Even though there was a large number of them I had no trouble keeping them apart. I couldn’t even pick a favorite when there were so many that I loved. The narration was another shining jewel. Joel Froomkin did an extraordinary job, juggling so many different characters, pouring life into them and making them unique and recognizable.

What I loved most about The Gelatin Coast is that it’s truly funny. Not just mildly entertaining, it is hilarious. The mix of the witty writing, quirky characters, an abundance of silly imaginative situations, and the perfect narration resulted in multiple lough out loud moments and an audiobook that keeps you smiling all the way through it.

With this book Doug Sacrison turned me into an enthusiastic fan of his work. I really hope he will keep writing, as I’ll be eagerly awaiting his future creations. Until then, I’ll be keeping The Gelatin Coast on my phone and going back to listen to it whenever I find myself in need of cheering up.
