- Starting with MY issues with the book get them out-of-the-way.
The very first and most important is that this is his book number two in the series. I felt like I was dropped right into the middle of a miniseries. I had a really had a hard time sorting out who was who & and what the heck was going on.
Its my preference to begin a series from book one and on, in order. However this was a gift to me in exchange for my opinion & review. Audible does not have book number one available at this time. For me this was a constant game of catch-up and I do not feel that I ever made it. The end had tons of loose ends that were not tied up.
I have a rule that I don’t buy a book in a series until all have been released. This is exactly why.
My second, less minor issue is that Audible has this classified as Romance > Erotica. There IS a bit of romance, however at just under 12 hours long it was minimal. This would have been better classified as a thriller or mystery with a disclaimer of mature themes.
On to the good… JJ McAvoy has some well-developed and multi dimensional characters, perhaps if Audible ever gets the rest of the series I will give it a try.
As for narration, Jeff Hayes does an almost impeccable job describing male and female characters alike – I am a bit perplexed though, as it sounds like Jeff Hayes is a woman. I listen to some other samples by Jeff Hayes and they were about one half female sounding & one half male sounding so I’m not sure if this is mislabeled, there are two Jeff Hayes or what is going on. I’m confused, but this Jeff Hayes did an excellent job.
