This book felt like John Grisham novel and I really enjoyed it. The narrator, Jeff Hays, does an absolutely fantastic job with this book. He uses sounds effects really well to create more realism and a sense of immersion that you don’t get from other narrators. I.e. the distortion you might hear when listening to a recording or how someone sounds over a phone. As for the novel itself, it takes place during 9/11 and about a year after. The main character is a court reporter who is reporting on a murder case, and he receives an anonymous tip that the suspect is innocent. The whole book is about him following the lead through several twists and turns. One of the things that I really appreciated about this book is that the main character doesn’t turn into some unbelievable super hero. He’s just an ordinary guy who makes mistakes too, and that gives the book a more authentic feeling, like this is something that could actually happen. It was also interesting to hear them talking about the technology from the time, like some people not really knowing what the internet is. Overall, this was a great book and deserves a listen.
