I knew the story and characters, having read this book on print, but this narrator’s superb vocal interpretation takes the print version to new heights of entertainment.

The story itself is great. Michelle is a solitary witch in a world of many humanoid races – dwarves, elves, shapeshifters of all shapes, brownies, trolls, satyrs, unicorns, gargoyles, faeries, nymphys, dryads, witches, and non paranormal humans live in society as equals with a Dragon in position of political power and rules laws or treaties keeping order. Refreshingly normal yet paranormal characters. Light on the romance as in none really and heavy on an unfolding mystery that gets deeper with each new turn.

The biggest mystery is why Michelle has no Clan.

The second biggest mystery is how one reader can become the unique voice of so many disparate people of both genders and several “species” even. Jeff Hays is amazing as narrator.

I have never heard his work before but will be on the look out for works he reads. I especially hope he continues to narrate this series, and I equally hope the author writes many more. I’ve read three in print of this series and can’t wait to hear Jeff perform all of them and more.

I already had this in my wish list on Audible when I came across the opportunity to get a gift copy a reviewer. I received a promotional copy from the narrator but have no relationship at all to the author, narrator or anyone else involved with the book….just a lucky, frugal audiobook fan.
