“Call me Ishmael” is kind of the running joke of this series, which centers on crewman Ishmael Wang of the interstellar trading ship Lois McKendrick. This book is a transition book, as Ish goes through a huge life altering change at the end of the book, moving on to the next phase of his adult life. As with the other books, this is a very charactercentric book, since there are no battles, no aliens, just the characters.doing their duties on a trading ship. There is an emergency onboard that could have caused disaster, but the excellent response by the crew saves the ship from disaster. The characters are what make this series, and they are excelletly drawn out, with snappy dialogue, real human emotion, and a story that draws you in. As always, Jeffrey Kafer’s narration is top notch, really bringing the characters to life with his warmth and snark! Any fan of sci fi should enjoy these continuing stories of Ishmael Wang.
