I recently watched the movie version of this again after many years and found it to be incredibly dated, so I wondered how the story itself held up. I was glad that the book, although definitely set during the 80’s, held up well. The reader’s voice set the right tone, and the subject matter was more disturbing than I would have thought. The characters and the scope of the story transcend the time of their setting and remain deliciously disturbing.
