The first chapter almost made me quit. Medical kink is not my thing, but that’s not what I didn’t like. August’s voice and the narration style were so neutral and clinical that I felt like I was listening to a documentary about medical kink. It was not the least bit sexy. But, I decided to soldier on and see if it got better. Chapter two (different narrator) was a jarring change from the first chapter in that although the voice was deep and pleasing, he spoke so fast that sentences and words had whole syllables left out or run together. It felt like I was listening to an audible speed-reading competition. But, still I pressed on. Most of the book is kinky sex scenes and I like kink, but the combination of the writing and the narration made everything cringey and almost boring. I gave up before the end of chapter four. The basis of the story was interesting, so I give props for that, but the overall execution just wasn’t great.
