I really loved this book from beginning to end. In the interest of making an actually constructive review, here’s what’s what.
If you liked the previous DCC books, you’ll probably like this one too. A lot of the previous plot threads have been building up to faction wars and I think this book executed on those plot points brilliantly. You have the usual cocktail of humor, chaos, action, tension, rising stakes and more.
My biggest problem with this book is the problem I have with the series in general. So many Skills, levels, magic/sci-fi systems, and gimmicks are annoying and difficult for my smooth monkey brain to keep up with. Every now and then someone will seem like they’re in a pickle and then use a skill that I totally forgot was a thing. Normally it’s fine, but sometimes it feels like every character has a magical wand of infinite BS that can be used at any moment for both good guys and bad guys. But then again, maybe that’s part of the fun?
