Having long time connections with the characters makes the stories comfortable. Reading of their navigating unfamiliar, complex and novel events and new alliances is interesting.
Its clear these are by a single author, and occasionally phrasing are over used and familiar. The stories vary in tone, and I did find one especially good and two that were more somber or unusual and not as much to my taste.
