I feel like the build up for this book was amazing. The story has been building towards it for multiple book.. I don’t feel like the payoff was worth it. The book feels like all of the stakes have been ratchetted down. The enemies feel incompetent and ineffectual. Even when Carl is doing something incredibly dumb, there isn’t really a feeling of danger. Carl’s continued existence feels unearned.
