I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I have enjoyed this series. This first book is very creative and funny, but think of it as setup for the rest of the series. Characters are introduced and built up over time throughout the series. It takes time to develop characters to a place where inside jokes land and situational humor really plays. Matt does this so well in this series. I love that these books aren’t 50+% describing fighting sequences. I lose interest in those stories quickly. It also doesn’t spend a huge portion of the series dissecting equipment and bonuses and stats. It has great fights, it has cool equipment, classes, abilities, and stats, but there is so much more than that. Great story arc, it can be unpredictable… and most of all… it’s funny. Overall, keep in mind that this series is worth the investment because in my opinion each book had been better than the last.
I will also add, the narrator, Jeff Hayes, is a talented voice actor. He is quickly catching up with RC Bray and the like in my opinion. He can straight up entertain and become characters.
