The narrator is the best in this genre of story. The story was good where nothing was ever easy. The fact that the apocalypse was difficult for everyone was realistic and the story portrays the feeling of ever changing and persistent challenges ie.. criminal, communist, natural disasters, and hunger.

The first and last book was done similar in regards to format where you follow multiple story line of characters and see them merge and separate which I really like . But a lot of the mid story is about a 19 year old teenager complaining that combat vets are not treating her fair during the apocalypse and I caught myself hoping that she would not make it! I think if the character was older even by 5 years it would have been more believable. I also wish the story the protagonist’s mother be more involved. The ending seemed rushed and put a definite “Mary Sue” award on the main character.
If you need a long story with every changing challenge and you can ignore the definite Mary Sue problems that can happen in a post apocalyptic saga then it’s a good listen
