Let me preface by saying I despise isekai-type stories.

That said, this book does subvert some of the pitfalls of that genre and it has some really clever humor. I would say about 30% of the humor landed with me, but when it did land, I would bust out loud laughing. And this is one of those books where if you bust out laughing at work and your coworker is like “what’s funny?”, it’s usually not work appropriate for you to explain what made you laugh.

I was waiting and hoping to begin caring about the protags and in the last act I started to begin to like them enough to be interested in continuing into the 2nd book.

Overall, I’m hooked enough to keep going in the series but maybe this book got a little too hyped up and as a result I was a bit let down.
