One of my favorite Lily Morton books, the snark is on point as usual without being over the top or a crutch for weak character building. Gabe and Dylan’s banter is hilarious and allows them to build a solid connection. There is truth behind their jokes, confessions in the things left unsaid, and loyalty in how they stand up for each other while still ruthlessly teasing.
I wouldn’t consider this book “enemies” to lovers, but it allows the same satisfaction of characters seeing each other at their worst and still falling, and seeing the good where others don’t. At times you will want to smack some sense into Gabe, but he never loses his likability. Your heart will ache for Dylan while he finds the balance of being understanding/standing up for his worth.
Joel Leslie knocks it out of the park with his narration, giving both characters a distinct voice and fully embodying their personalities.
