So….The description in Audible doesn’t really describe the book very well because it turns out the story is about an overpowered mimic that is stupidly smart, ridiculously lucky, that (of course) does everything right, enjoys very graphically eating people/things and is perpetually protected by plot armor….with some succubus sex and harem fantasy thrown in to make it adultish. Initially I really liked the twist (the main character is an evolving mimic) and I saw some of the the humor aspect I read about in the Audible reviews, but after a bit I started losing interest and eventually had to slog thru it hoping for something worthwhile to justify the higher Audible rating….which never happened so overall I’m not sure why it has such a high rating. Maybe the story scratches some kind of mimic fantasy or cannibal itch that some readers have, not really sure….but I do know that it’s not my thing. So as the mimic would say “Not Tasty”. On a positive note I do like the idea of a spell casting combat oriented, mimic wielding swords and stalking its prey rather than sitting waiting to be opened and will see about putting some iteration of this idea into my DnD home brew. I also enjoyed the narration and gave a star for Jeff Hays who was absolutely excellent as always.
