Book 1 is fun. It’s sort of a take off on the “Reincarnated Monster” trope so common in isekai works. Where this story shines however is in its ensemble which expands as the story goes along, building a sneakily strong cast of relatively simple but likable characters.

There are a couple of things that take some getting used to. Jeff Hays is excellent, but sometimes has the acting turned to an 11/10 when an 8 might work better. (Particularly in the transformation scenes, which. I sometimes skip over because of aggressive voice acting. The main pov took a minute to get into for me and is one of the voices I least enjoy listening to. However it’s still well done.

The third book is where this series took off for me. Will be buying the others.
