I enjoy this story very much, but I absolutely hate Melina’s character.
First, I hate the voice actress. She sounds like a little girl and tries to make everything cutesy. I’ve heard her and two other audiobooks and she plays those characters exactly the same and it’s very annoying.
Secondly, I don’t think the author had a really good grasp of Melina’s character. She’s supposed to be light-hearted and intellectually driven, but he keeps having to remind you that she is intellectually driven and enjoys research because you can’t see that from her actions. Also, whenever she hears the name of the guy she wants dead, she suddenly becomes an idiot, murderous, sadist. Characters don’t lose their mind everytime unless they’re already crazy. I get that she’s probably dealing with PTSD and severe trauma but that’s not how a normal individual with her supposed intellectual prowess would act. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense for her character.
