The plot itself is somewhat intriguing, and I kept listening because it has a lot of references that connect with my own experiences. I don’t doubt that is why the algorithm recommended this trilogy to me and why I snapped it up when it did.

The book feels like it was written either by a young writer lacking variation or by AI. The characters end up in the same situations over and over. The situations are described using the same phrases over and over. The character’s really don’t get their own personality, apparently everyone from gang bangers to militarys vets are suddenly tactical operators and act like it. When characters speak, there is no variation it’s just he said or she said. Additionally, every radio transmission in the book is taken too far. I get it, station being calling, station calling, message traffic, over….but there is no need to have every radio call have an “I repeat” thrown in there. And again, back to the characters all being the same, almost every person on the radio is suddenly an expert on comms?

Unfortunately this whole trilogy is like a bowl of creamed wheat. It’s there and it’s digestible, but everybite is bland and the same.
