The attention to detail concerning all things nautical were a delight. It could have been half gaublygook, I am not qualified to make those distinctions. However it gives appearance and confidence of authenticity. The protagonists were loveable.
That said, the Authors use of “Bangers” and rapists was wildly over the top. it is also pretty clear that the Author has no love for cities or the people who dwell with in them. Every man who wasn’t a God, Family, Country man was a violent, power hungry, barbarian who loves raping. Really it was a bit much.
I live in Louisiana and many of the names of the rivers, bayous and all manner of waterways have impossibly hard names to pronounce if you haven’t spent much time down here. So kudos on the voice actor for his attempts. The pronunciation of the Natches river needed some help.
Not a serious piece of literature, but on a long drive it’s fun. Just tone down the sexual violence there are plenty of other real world rationales for violence that can be used in a post apocalyptic story.
