The story is interesting, but there is little mystery in the storytelling. The same facts and quotes were repeated so many times throughout the book that I felt it would never end. There were even times that the author summarized and explained someone’s comments about something, then immediately followed with a quote of the original statement that said exactly the same thing. The book could easily have been half as long. Also, the title is misleading. Two families? Only one other family was briefly mentioned very late in the narrative and then never referred to again. Was this the 2nd family? Who knows. Narrator is okay but does not capture one’s attention, and his efforts to narrate the female characters is cringy.
