I felt outside of most of what Edmund White was sharing although what he shares is certainly considered personal. He gets points for dipping into TMI, not that I thought he would avoid doing so. There’s plenty of humor and the affectations of the narrator work for the most part but also became a bit grating at times—the way he extends a single word was done a few too many times for my taste.

There’s only so much talk about butt f***ing, surprisingly large phalluses, and water sports that can be shared before it becomes redundant. Ultimately, the stories feel thin (as well as admittedly unorganized) and while he speaks to what was meaningful about many of these connections and encounters, I was left hoping I’d care more about him than I do.
