I have read a few of Brian Parker’s books. He has numerous excellent Zombie books (some of the best storylines in the 5 roads to Texas series) and the Sci-Fi noir Easytown books are really good.
So this is the first time I’ve ready anything “fantasy” with swords elves and imps by Brian and it did not disappoint. While this is “part one” and there’s still a lot of story to go, I enjoyed the cast of characters and their development through the story (including one who bugged the hell out of me, I think this was due to me projecting my own trauma onto that character). I’m very excited to see where this story goes and I am looking forward to part 2.
I’ll be honest in that I’m still on the fence with the “Retro” setting for the story. While it’s fun having some call backs to the early 90’s, I don’t think it’s essential to the story to be set then. Then again maybe it will play a bigger part as the story continues.
Now for the audio!
This was the first book I’ve listened to narrated by Andrew B. Wehrlen, and I really do think he did a cracking job. The whole production of the audio book was top notch and a pleasure to listen to.
So more than happy to have spent some money to buy this audio book (I also bought the Kindle as well). And I’m excited to see what happens now the Void has been fully breached!
