The author continues to struggle with character interactions. They things they say feel forced and, in some cases, completely at odds with the situation they’re in. Also, I really respected that this series DIDN’T have a romance arc for the MC. I wouldn’t have gripped about adding one at all though, if it weren’t for who they choose as his romance. It doesn’t make sense. Trying to avoid spoilers but the romance just takes a lot of depth away from the character. It essentially rewrites them and acts like the backstory from the first 3 books is just gone and wouldn’t have left any physiological scaring.
Other than that, the story is fine. Not as engaging as the 3rd book, but still enjoyable.
The narrators are good too. Jeff is fantastic and Dorrie is alright.
