It’s definitely interesting. A lot of the MC’s childish and immature behavior comes from a place of trauma (on top of an absolutely insane childhood). My favorite parts were when he didn’t just act like a (sometimes) helpful, immature, misogynistic, gaming man-child. In this book, he flip-flops between that and someone who is definitely antagonistic but with PURPOSE. There IS a difference. A BIG ONE.
This is a crazy world, and I’m definitely going to listen to the next one. I snuck a peek at reviews on book 3 and while I’m glad the insane plot twists continue, I’m hesitant to get as invested in this series as some others because it’s been 4 years since book 3 and there is no news of a book 4 in sight. Still, I’ll give it a whirl.
Jeff Hayes is AMAZING, as always. Even with the repetition of the characters stats at the end of every chapter. Every line has great pacing and is delivered clearly. Nothing seems like “throw away” information that’s being rushed through. He continues to be one of my favorite narrators!
