Workmanlike, small town werewolf horror. Not much you haven’t read before if you like this sort of thing–but if you like this sort of thing, you’ll like this.
I like that the local law enforcement takes the threat seriously, as well as many townsfolk. There is a good effort to deal with the threat as rationally as possible. Others whom I would expect to be prepared to meet the thing they avidly want to see are…not. There’s the usual cast of rebellious teens who disregard their elders’ warnings in favor of fooling around, and grown ups pursuing serious romance., Old folks, derelicts, and those just trying to get along are along for the ride.
I’ll be blunt: Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter series is, for my money, the new standard to meet for werewolves, vampires, zombies, and other eldritch horrors. Correia knows how to play in his world. Rolfe doesn’t make the world his, and settles for hitting the marks–but he hits them hard.
