While this series is almost exclusively given to the male perspective in everything, despite there being numerous female characters, it is excellent. There is a truly wonderful missed opportunity though in the female characters that I hope the author will explore with gusto in the next series of books. A new angle is needed to keep things fresh and I am excited to see how these characters evolve as their story continues! it is extremely engaging and a little bit addictive. After all, it’s hard for a listener to leave these characters in dire straights, so of course we have to keep listening to “help them out” of their current life-threatening challenge. Don’t buy that? I dare you to give it a listen. It’s like Lays potato chips- you can’t listen to just one! Based on everything the first series has prepared us for, the next series will undoubtedly involve numerous challenges as well! The narration is outstanding and that makes this worth the listen! While the writer made me love these characters, I feel like we have only scratched the surface of who they are and who they will become. The exception to that is the main character, who is known in a repetitious manner, in each book. He is exceedingly well written and extremely creative and determined in facing all of the challenges of the Dark Roads journey. I could easily see a series called “Homestead” with just as many books, to continue their ongoing story of survival! This series is definitely worth the listen and I highly recommended it!
