I haven’t enjoyed an Audible book more since I finished Bonnie Garmus’ “Lessons in Chemistry.” Virginia Evans has crafted a gem of a novel. Her characters are so interesting – and she has fleshed out the back stories of each of her “correspondents” with such detail and nuance. The book takes on unexpected twists and turns and is a joy to listen to. A special shout out to Maggi-Meg Reed who voices ‘Sybil Van Antwerp.’ I would nominate her for an Audie Award as she is fabulous! For those in the last chunk of their lives – the book is especially poignant. Regrets, apologies, curiosity, finding joy and engaging with new things are topics of examination – and giving grace to ourselves for the things we wish we had handled better. The author herself is so much younger than the characters and story she has created – and that makes her deep understanding of their lives and regrets so much richer. It’s a book you will want to listen to more than once!
