If you thought you were just going to casually listen to Sword of Kaigen while folding laundry, think again. This audiobook will have you so engrossed, you’ll forget what laundry even is. M.L. Wang’s storytelling is so breathtaking, I had to remind myself to breathe.

The world-building? Impeccable. I could practically feel the icy winds of Kaigen and smell the cherry blossoms. The characters? They didn’t just come to life; they moved in, rearranged my furniture, and made themselves at home in my heart.

This book is poetic, and not in the “roses are red” kind of way. It’s the kind of poetry that makes you question your life choices and wonder if you should take up sword fighting.

Expectations? Consider them superseded. This is a beautiful story of love, loss, propaganda, sexism, masculinity, abuse, grief, and wealth. It’s like a buffet of emotions, and I went back for seconds.

In short, Sword of Kaigen is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you speechless, and possibly in need of a hug. Highly recommend!
