This was a great entry. Unfortunately or fortunately it would be hard to pick up this book without first having read the rest. So, if you haven’t read the previous books in the dungeon crawler series, stop now and go get them. You’ll have fun.
I won’t comment on the story except to say that in lesser hands, this story would get stale. Not here. The big point of this review is to tell you to pay attention to the characters besides Carl and Donut. Everyone has bigger roles and if you haven’t paid attention, it takes a bit to remember how Carl met these people or critters and how or why their deaths or survival mean anything.
There’s more Donut and Mongo in this book. There’s more exposition of the sex doll head and she becomes endearing. If fact, there’s more of everybody which results in a story line that’s a little cluttered. Buy it and listen to it. You won’t be sorry. Also, there are at least two laugh-out-moments.
As for Jeff Hays, the reader, he’s good but his fake laughing and other manifestations of emotion are a little off-putting. I like acting when the reader speaks, but he’s a bit too much for me. Nevertheless, he doesn’t detract from the book and doesn’t make me swear off the author like other readers do.
