I loved the format of this book. I never tired of hearing the addresses and salutations. I sought out words that I knew established emotion in her, when she typically would not express. Cybil reminded me of many people of her generation with letter writing. My mother used to have a pen pal and I was always excited when the letters would come. Cybil might remind me of myself and many other females surviving life. Finding happiness through painful denial, girlef and also a good life.
This is a story of a strong willed woman, with perhaps, a crumugeon type of personality. Stuck in her ways, but alas, a soft heart underneath it all. I lked how her problems unfolded for us, and how she was able to find completion in the end, with the help of her family, and most importantly, her own self reflection. She was able to explain herself to others and herself.
The narration was simply lovely. I would say there was not one character I didn’t like. I learned to live them all. They were in my life for a few days and I am attached.
I will miss the book, Cybil, Theodore, and Hattie. I sound like a Tik Tok girlie when I say “I envy those who have not read this book. and are able to read it for the first time” More than 6 ⭐’s. I would say it’s one of my top 10 favorite reads (and I am 61, that is a lot of reading!)
