June First had me hooked at the start—with the opening chapter being fairly traumatic, although drawn out (cough cough, as is the whole book) and by the halfway point, I was whispering “please let it be June 2nd.” The two main characters dove so deep into their feelings, I think they hit the Earth’s core… and then circled back to repeat themselves three more times just to make sure I really got it. Also, the book casually skimmed over death like it was a minor inconvenience, and then tossed in the whole adopted sibling romance plot like, “Surprise! We’re still doing this!”
