I actually really liked this book. more than many post-apocalypse or EMP novels that I have listened to. I really really like the female perspectives, which tend to be lacking, or highly misogynistic from most writers. The only downfall of the novel for me was the dad, Walter. In my opinion it would have been better if his plane crashed and he was not part of the book at all.
A big part of why I don’t like him is the particular narrator who reads his character though. I absolutely hate that narrator! And this guy seriously reads so much apocalypse fiction And EMP fiction and end of the world novels… It’s astounding! I can’t believe how much in this genre this particular narrator reads. And I absolutely hate his voice! The only time I liked it was when he was narrating a grandfatherly character. I mean seriously. Walter is supposed to be 47 years old. The narrator makes him sound like he’s 90 years old! I needed to listen to his parts of the book at 1.15 speed Just to handle his slow scratchy old man voice.
okay rant over.
Overall definitely worth a listen for anyone who’s interested in this genre. I’m continuing with the next book And looking forward to seeing how things go for the characters.
