Pretty standard entry in the EMP apocalyptic genre. It was more grounded than many other books in the genre. I appreciated that the characters didn’t suddenly turn into peerless killing machines like many characters in this genre tend to do.
While it was more grounded than other similar books, it did have some pretty amazing coincidences that detracted a bit from the series. Overall it was worth a listen, especially as part of the Plus catalog.
The narrator was okay but not stellar. He brought a more intelligent and nuanced style of narration than other narrators in the genre who bring a gravelly, very masculine narration style.
That said, his narration style made the main character sound almost bookish, like an accountant. Some of the other characters had a fairly whiny tinge to their voices. He was okay but not great.
