This book leans heavily on overhyped stereotypes to justify a “shoot first, don’t ask questions” worldview toward anyone who doesn’t look or sound like the main character. I’m sorry, but suggesting that certain races of people would rather loot and pillage when the world is falling apart—rather than care for their families and communities—is both absurd and harmful.

I made it about three hours in before I couldn’t bear it anymore. I kept hoping the character’s assumptions would be challenged or proven wrong, but instead the story doubled down and validated those prejudices. It left me disappointed and uncomfortable, not entertained.
