Firstly, the narrative is mail or e-mail correspondence among various with none of it being very interesting. The point behind the main character is a very slow build.
Secondly, I found the main character increasingly unlikable as I listened. She seems quite self-absorbed, arrogant, and toxic among other things, which made it difficult to emphasize with her in the end. I suppose there is a lesson to be learned about life as she doesn’t actually live until much later in the book. She writes about her shallow life in letters to feel connected to others without truly connecting for the most part. Kind of like a diary instead of actually communicating to anyone.
