How did this book not get more 4- or 5-star reviews? The story was so intriguing, dark, and intense from start to finish. From the very first chapters, this book pulled me in and refused to let go. Sue Watson does an incredible job weaving suspense, messy friendships, jealousy, and deeply buried secrets into a fast-paced psychological thriller that constantly keeps you questioning everyone’s motives.
I’ll admit—I was able to piece together part of the mystery fairly early, especially surrounding the “we slept together” reveal, but that didn’t take away from the experience at all. If anything, it made the story even more enjoyable because the tension never lets up. Even when you think you have something figured out, the emotional layers and character dynamics keep you hooked.
The characters felt incredibly real—flawed, frustrating, and human in the best (and worst) ways.
Lauren was absolutely insufferable: a snobby, selfish writer who is the definition of a “friend you don’t want,” yet somehow Daisy’s so-called best friend.
Georgie was intense, jealous, and tightly wound, with low self-esteem and serious anger issues hiding beneath her clean-freak exterior.
Maddie was fragile and heartbreaking—a girl with real potential as a professional ballet dancer, weighed down by her low-income upbringing and isolating herself from everyone.
Dan, Georgie’s husband, was both sexy and skin-crawling—an immature, cheating creep trapped in a man’s body who made my skin crawl every time he appeared.
Alex, the drug dealer from a poor background, felt detached and out of place, yet somehow every woman gravitated toward him.
All of them were friends and roommates of Daisy, whose sudden death comes shortly after discovering she was pregnant. The story unfolds through a podcast investigation, slowly revealing how the man who supposedly killed Daisy—and later took his own life in jail—was actually framed. Watching the truth unravel piece by piece was incredibly satisfying.
And that ending? A total surprise. Dark, shocking, and emotionally charged, it tied everything together in a way I didn’t see coming. This was one of those thrillers that sticks with you after you finish, making you replay the story and characters in your mind. If you love psychological thrillers filled with toxic friendships, secrets, and twists, this one is absolutely worth the read.
